Reducing Digital Noise

I tried a tip from "Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Photographers" by Martin Evening on an old point and shoot image I had from a child fashion show with low lighting and this is the result:



Duplicate the Background layer.
Change the blend mode to Color.
Apply a Gaussian Blur to the layer.

Because you have set it to color mode, the sharpness of the image isn't changed. On this image, it gave a better result than using the noise filter with CS2.

I use a plugin called "neat image", cant say enough about it. It will smooth skin if you're careful.
