I believe steam locomotives are the hardest thing in the world to get a nice shot of! This is because they are usually black, usually shot with overhead lighting (sunshine or daylight) and seldom have anything close by (such as a large white building) to bounce some fill light into those deep dark shadows. Such is your image.
