Self Portraits

I couldn't sleep last night, so I turned on a small lamp and played, trying different settings on the camera to see if I could get a halfway non-grainy shot. This is the best of the bunch. I can't figure out where the blue edge along the chest shadow and under my nose came from.  Sad The black and white one is thrown in just for fun, mainly because I like the pose. Tongue

It's hard taking self portraits! Especially in the dark, ha ha.

on the first one, your lamp is low.  I mean, really, whose isn't?  But for portrait lighting it should have been up a little further, watch the shadow from your nose (do you have a mirror?).  It's too far to the side and your catchlights are low.  Try moving your lamp higher, or sit on the floor next time.
Exposure looks a bit too light on the light side of your face.  Stop down and you need some fill light.  Use your bedsheet (if it's white) or a posterboard or something next time to bounce some light onto the shadow part of your face.

Marian, I have to ask, is your hair seriously that color?  I love red hair...  Mine is really dark brown, no red in it at all though.

Hahahah...bedroom photography 101. Grin Unfortunately, my sheets are black.  Cheesy I tried using a little handheld light for fill. Heck, I'll attach a photo to show it. Hahahahha.

Are you asking if it's my "real" hair color? Grin I started going gray when I was in my 20's, so I've been dying it ever since. It varies from dark black to light brown, and everything in between. Just depends on my mood at the time I'm in the store picking up color.

Is there a way to fix that in post processing? I've tried, but it won't go away. Tongue
