Spray Finish

Ok, you know that finish that labs spray your prints with for an extra cost?  I know you can buy the spray at any camera shop.  It protects the images right?
Do you guys think it would protect illustrations drawn with markers and ink?
I want to display some fashion illustrations without glass.  I want to mount them on styrene and spray them and hang them with ribbon.
What do you think?

Art stores carry a fixative for artwork and it's usually pretty inexpensive. I've used it many times for charcoal/pastel work, and for pencil.

Fixative from an art store, I agree with Marian.  I've used it on plenty of my charcoal/pastel paintings as well.  Realize however, that it may make your colors a little different.  Not really noticeable, but if a color for a dress has to be perfect for some reason, this may be a good reason not to use a fixative spray.  And it probably goes without saying, but remember to practice and test on something not important before you go right after spraying the final work.

Back in the days when my hands still did decent pastel and pencil work I would use hairspray as a cheap alternative. I wouldn't call that an archival option though.

Sarcasm, frustrating the clueless since 3000 b.c.

I didn't want the shiny plastic look of laminate.
Is the fixative spray something I could use and then not have to put it behind glass?  It's not like chalk where you are trying to avoid smudging.  In fashion illustration the final piece drawn in ink and then colored in with blendable markers and then highlighted with white paint.  I could also scan the originals and have them printed on matte photographic paper and then mounted and sprayed.

BTW, this is for my daughter's room.  My sister, a fashion designer, is helping me do fashion illustrations inpsired by the Disney princeses.  I want to hang them in a row by ribbon, gallery style.

There is a "Matt" finish which does not look plastic.   Big Grin

Marian, I think that is what I am looking for.
