Stage lighting

Pages [1] 2
A friends band was playing over the weekend, and actually on before my bedtime.(they play so late!) So I took my camera and played around with it under stage lights. ...Bad, bar stagelights, but anyway....
Heres one I liked.
Any tips you all have for shooting in this setting, I'd love to hear em..

hm, I just let them be colored weird.  Is that what you are worried about?  I think it adds to the mood.  If it's shutter speed you are worried about turn up the ISO, grain adds to the mood too.

Actually, it is well captured, I either use the flash as a fill, which also doesn't take away from the stage lights or I just shoot for the lights.

Hi ISO and a fast lens is needed.

Here's a sample of what I did with the light, no on board flash and no funny business in photoshop. Just artsy approach. hehe

No Susie, I was reffering to the one size fits all location of the cans on stage.
They dont move them for each band, they just are what they are. The colors are fine.
But there were A LOT of shadows and dark spots where a couple of the players hung out the whole show so it was nearly impossible to get a photo of those guys.
FYI-My brother is a pro stage light tech, so I know way too much about stage lighting to just sit and enjoy any average production. Kind of a downer sometimes.  Smiley
I should have turned up the ISO even more.
Thanks Mike.
I like that that sample.
This is an area of photography that I'd really like to grow into.
 Thank You

push your camera to its limit, then shoot for composition and fix what you can later.

Kind of like when your family wants to show you their vacation photos and ask how good they are. Or when you get you kids school pictures.

If you can't control the shoot you push every limit and hope for the best.

Thank you.
I havent played with Topaz yet but it should be fun when I get around to it!
Heres another from the evening.
I added in more noise and burned out some edges and ceiling mess, but this is the best I got with all 4 of them mostly in the frame.
And then just a creative one.

not bad at all. Personally I hate noise but I also hate soft and they are related. [grin] Do you not have a web page? putting your email on the images that big might not go over well. I put my web page on the images and the girls that I shoot like that better than the BE I used to use because anyone thats interested will find more photos of them on my site. myspace, flickr, smugmug all are better than no web page. Getting your own domain name is not a problem either If you want your own domain name, shoot me a PM. (I am not a reseller but will give you some suggestions)

I have a smugmug, but no domain name yet. saving pennies. I have a hard time justifying family $ going to my pro-bono hobby. So its slow going.
I have just as of yesterday cleaned up my smugmug to be somewhat presentable, so I may go back and put it on the photos for the time being.
I dont know if the whole band has seen these photos yet or not. I just want something on there that identifies that its me for the moment.
I think they are going to have me do their album work. They are in the studio now and its supposed to drop in a few months. We'll see. But, I think Im the most affordable photographer they know. Camera The lead guitar player is my husbands oldest friend so they get me REAL cheap...just out of love.
Im working on it.
Heres the page if anyone wants to look.

you do realize a domain name is $12 a year. It could point to your smugmug.

My only problem is if you allow them to download the original size images what makes  you think they'll buy one?
