Stupid rules at a wolf sanctuary

Pages [1] 2
Jim and I are going to a wolf sanctuary today. I was all excited until I read the rules. NO lenses over 80mm allowed. No tripods or monopods allowed. Photos taken of the wolves can only be used for personal use, no commercial applications in any form are permitted.

What a crock of.....

Tongue

I've put my 50mm 1.4 lens on the camera WITH my 2x converter. If you don't hear from me, you'll know what happened.

So they want you to get really close to the wild animals. That's always good for business.

i think i'd put the images in my blog - even with those rules.

blog is just talking about what you shot lately - its not like your trying to sell those images.

 Big Grin

be safe none the less.

That designed so that you don't make money off of their work/project.  Many Zoo's have the same rules.

Remember, they own the rights to the image of their property, just like you own the copyright to your photos.

Personally I think you should send an email to the press, the director of the wolf place and anyone else that might care and basically state you are a professional artist and was planning on helping raise awareness for the wolf but since didn't want anyone to photograph their animals you would have to direct your energy elsewhere.

Then

go visit the stupid place, put your longest "legal" lens on the camera and once you get inside pop on the doubler. use the dog-leash monopod shoot high ISO and try not to catch any recognizable landmarks. One of the nature centers here wants $30 if you are a professional photographer. Nobody goes there.

Hm, I see their point of view, I see your point of view...
All I can say is - Sorry, that sucks.

I'm on the fence with Susie.  I can understand them not wanting you to use images commercially.  But then I'd probably be frustrated not being able to use a longer lens.  I guess it comes down to "their house, their rules."

It's like no camera's with a removable lens are allowed at "our" concert.

Anyone else want to join us on the fence?  C'mon, everyone's doin' it.

I hope it's a strong fence if I'm gonna jump on it.

Never been much of a fence straddler any way.

My boys are to precious and will revolt if I sit on a fence.

who said anything about straddling it?  I am sitting lady like with both feet on one side, thank you very much.

Hahahhahaa...you guys are too much!

Well, I got there, stood in line for the tour and, when our group started out, I noticed there were 3 people with lenses over 300mm! I was seething. Not a word was said to them. Then they started using their flash, again against the rules. Not a word. The only satisfaction I got was knowing that the flash was just highlighting the fencing even more and that's all they were going to see. One guy was chimping after the every shot. He had high end everything. Fancy lens. Fancy bonus battery pack. Designer socks, shoes, jacket, hiking shoes. Everything on his body said, "wheeee....look at meeee." Tongue Here he is with a fancy Canon camera, and he says to his wife, also decked out in the same equipment, "the stupid thing keeps focusing on the fencing." Hee hee.
