Cindy - That is so great.  I love it.  I still haven't played with any textures yet.  I found some cool ones I want to buy on istock though.

Carrie - I have learned all my practical knowledge here.  School didn't teach me anything about photography compared to the great advice the people here have offered.  Post lots of images and you will love it here.

I found some time to play with textures.  I just went to the website Cindy recommended and found a free one.  Here is the Before and After:

Susie, that's beautiful!!!!

Cindy......................................I'm here in Las Vegas right now. So what am I doing? Gambling? Nope. Taking photos of the casinos? Nope. I'm taking photos of textures. It's all I'm seeing. While everyone else is running around gaping at neon, I'm taking pictures of things like the sidewalk...a brick wall...rocks. Grin The natives think I'm nuts!

Isn't it fun to try new things!  I get addicted for awhile, then I am on to the next new thing and I forget how to do older ones, even though they are still relavent.  I need to write my own tutorials for myself!

I am keeping a digital notebook with all the stuff I'm learning, so I don't have to ask again. Smiley

I hope these textures turn out. Lots of wonderful rock formations, cracks, fluffy things, etc out here in the desert. When I get home, I'll upload them to my domain so that you all can play with them. Smiley

That looks so cool Susie!!!!!!!!  It's fun, huh?
Marian, me too.  Now I see textures everywhere.  Leaves, bricks, just everything.  Have fun in Vegas!

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share a short Texture Tutorial...

Thank you, Cindy, for your tutorial!
I'd just like to add that it is very useful to use layer masks and paint them black where we want to hide texture instead of deteting it. Because we can easily change or recover our edits anytime and any way we want.

What are you doing in Vegas?

It's my Dad's 70th birthday. Smiley

My dad said, "photographers take pictures of the weirdest things. Rocks, hair.." Grin

Anton, that is a good point.  Thanks.

Took a photo of a silvery desert shrub while in Vegas and thought I'd play:

And here's one using a rock:

I found a few free minutes and played with another texture on the same picture.  I think I like it better than my first attempt.

Marian, those are cool.

Another one, for fun, because I don't want to work on the pictures I should be working on.  And, it's not because they aren't fun pictures, I just have something wrong with my brain where I don't want to do what I am supposed to no matter what it is.  It's like chocolate, I doubt it would taste nearly as wonderful if it wasn't good for you.
