I can only imagine the cuts......... But who cares because I work for me.....and my clients.  Yes, you have told me how much we suck.  However, we are trying to be a bit different from five years ago.  Share the hate and the love. :-)

"I want to warn you, my photos will always be a bit more fantasy than reality."

OK, I give up, what's wrong with it?

If you were trying to mimic the 'Mona Lisa' then you didn't make it.  ("Leo's" peers thought his paintings were too slick BTW.)

If you were performing a service then you will have to ask your customer.  Wink

Nothing is wrong with it, as far as I am concerned.  It will be published in Spectacular Weddings 2007 this Fall.  The  Bride's Mom is an art teacher, and she loves them.
However, I have come pretty familiar with how much I suck.  If you read the past threads, I suck pretty harshly.
I get some e-mails, asking how I did what, so some people get it.  And that last sentence alone will draw a lot of fire.
I don't work for WPPI credits.  I don't work to satisfy anyone but the client.  The fact that I've raised my pricing 5 times in 2 years should speak for my consistancy.
The Modern Bride wants something different.  She doesn't want the same old same old.  She wants to be right out of a Magazine.  She wants to be the most beautiful creature ever photographed.  She wants super bright colors.  She wants to be "super cool".
But I know most of you disagree.
Hugs and much love,
Cindy

Have I missed something?  Since when do you suck?  I think that you "pinched" the waist a little too much, but if that's what your brides want I don't have any problem with it.

I didn't have time to go over details in these yet, but there are sure no major flaws that I can see!

Thank you Ed.  I was starting to get depressed around here, until I got feedback.  I'm no WPPI winner for sure, but I'm not sure that is my job.

Freakishly, these girls want to be Scarlett O'Hara in Texas.  You can't have a tiny enough waist.  I just try to make it semi beleivable.

Sorry Cindy, sometimes I am a bit obtuse.

taken form this site...  http://gallery.euroweb.hu/bio/l/leonardo/biograph.html

" The Mona Lisa, Leonardo's most famous work, is as well known for its mastery of technical innovations as for the mysteriousness of its legendary smiling subject. This work is a consummate example of two techniques—sfumato and chiaroscuro—of which Leonardo was one of the first great masters. Sfumato is characterized by subtle, almost infinitesimal transitions between color areas, creating a delicately atmospheric haze or smoky effect; it is especially evident in the delicate gauzy robes worn by the sitter and in her enigmatic smile. Chiaroscuro is the technique of modeling and defining forms through contrasts of light and shadow; the sensitive hands of the sitter are portrayed with a luminous modulation of light and shade, while color contrast is used only sparingly.

An especially notable characteristic of Leonardo's paintings is his landscape backgrounds, into which he was among the first to introduce atmospheric perspective. The chief masters of the High Renaissance in Florence, including Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, and Fra Bartolommeo, all learned from Leonardo; he completely transformed the school of Milan; and at Parma, Correggio's artistic development was given direction by Leonardo's work. "

Some painters at the time didn't like having to compete in a style which was already mastered but not by them.

It was not a dig, I Like your work.  Wink

I love Leonardo.
The painting is actually both woman and man .  The left side is man, and the right side is woman.  I've read a crapload about the guy as he is my hero.  He studied the human form like noone else before him.
The right side is Feminine.  The left is masculine.  The same in the background if you study Latin or Latino history. If you cut the face in half you will see what I mean.
I study the arts.  I have a ton of books on the subject.  That is where I get my ideas.

I admire you that you are willing to try so much different things. And than some pictures of you are like art. You like it or you dislike it.

Number two and three I like most. Two is more traditional - with some minor points it would have been better. Let her turn in a bit, position of the hand. Number three  has a specicial mood. I can't describe it but I like it.

Number four I really don't like - does not give me any special feelings. Too much collages in Photoshop.
Number five is too black. I have seen lots of brides and graffiti but always with bright colors (green - blue - red - yellow and oversaturated that is IMO more contemporary). For me I got a bit too dark and depressive mood.
Number one is less than two and three. The composition is not finished.

I like what you do and keep going on.

 Grin Cindy....Cindy....Cindy!  Bad Girl!  Sad

Just because a guy is old don't mean he has no eyeballs in his head or has no appreciation of new concepts and ideas.  Well- at least speaking for myself. I'm as old as the hills and I don't think your images "SUCK".  Your pictures are exciting, have lots of visual energy, nice use of perspectives and textures and have great sales appeal.

Believe me- all the old guys certainly don't do anything but enter print competitions and want to replicate the Mona Lisa!  Just check out the work of Helmut Newton, Arnold Newman and Richard Avadon- you can't find older guys- their all dead! Their work, however, ain't dead by any means even their later stuff!

Hay!  What's wrong with racking up some awards AND appealing to your customers- those concepts are NOT mutually exclusive nor is doing classical photography and satisfying your clients.

If someone wants to find fault with everything and issue harsh critiques one can do so but that is not the way I work.  I like what you have posted here and YES- there are a few images that can use a but more polish but that is not to say anything SUCKS.  When I critique, I do so with the maker's style in mind- I don't want anyone to change their style- I just look for things that would make things better (within that style) and suggest changes of elements that only stand to distract from the statement that the maker wants to make.
Get it?   Grin    The mean Ed  >Sad

PS- If you want a C/C just let me know.

I think they are beautiful.  They are edgy and georgeous.  I love them.  If I was going to get married again (not very likely) I would want pics like these.  Great Job.  I only wish I could be as good as you.
