Thought I would post two candid portraits I took of my father in law and his friend as they spent a saturday afternoon at a childrens party. Just goes to show you dont have to conform to your surrounding to show what you want. Please CC these images.

I really like the graininess and the expressions.  I don't feel like they are supposed to be dark and foreboding, however.  Which is what I feel the contrast and large quantity of very dark shades creates.

This is one of those cases where I keep coming back and looking at the images again before making any comment . . .

I really like both of these, but I have to say that I like the first better.  There is a "grittiness" to these (I think that is what Travis meant as well) that I love being an old B&W darkroom guy.  And, the skin tones are incredible.  I don't have a whole lot to say abou these personal portraits except for one great compliment - Every time that I look at them, I can't help but think of Eugene Smith.
