Topaz Image Tool - Photoshop PluginLibrary Thread

Pages [1] 2
Well, I downloaded the trial and used it on an image I took yesterday of a mountain goat. Lots of white, lots of fur. Just wanted to see how it worked. I tested all of the presets, and I've included their names under each image. The first file is the original. The second file has all the adjustments. I did not adjust any settings, just let it determine what to do.

If you want to see the 3MB version of the second file, for a more detailed look, you can find it here: http://wildmaven.org/pb/topazbig.jpg (remember, some browsers automatically resize large images for display. In IE move your mouse over the bottom right corner and the enlarger button will appear)

Looks to me like the entire center column is the best, I like photo pop for this image.

What do you think? Personally I like the tool.

I'm undecided right now. I'm going to play with it over the next few days, to see if it's something I want to purchase. I can see the uses, but want to see if they're right for me. I'm going to pull out some of my raw landscapes and play.

These are interesting.  I know, as mentioned in another recent thread, that plug ins are apparently stuff that PS can't do.  However, I am not seeing anything here life changing.  I believe most of it can be done with adjustments you can make in PS.
Anyway, I agree with Bob, the center stuff seems to be the best.
As with purchasing any software, plug-in, actions, or whatever - they are going to be worth it to one person and not to another, so all that matters is if you like them and if you would use them.

You have to adjust the sliders, play with them, Marian, you're creative, you'll see what magic it does.

I enjoy some of what it can do. The noise filter is junk compared to neat image but some of its other tools are cool.

I like the Noise reduction in CS3, the Topaz is close to the cartoon style, really, noise/grain is no issue, it does enough, the slider is touchy, just have to find that happy spot.

Mike, the example I showed was, as I said, without adjusting anything, just using the defaults. Smiley

Here's some from today, using the Psychedelic setting:

So, what do you think, Marian, I don't have photomatix, how closely are they related.?

I tried the boats above with both photomatix and topaz and it's sooooo much easier with topaz. I'm definitely going to buy it. Smiley

The only problem I'm having with it is that it does some strange ghosting around some objects, specifically around trees which are against a brighter background.

This is after using Psychedelic and then applying some noise control to soften it, making it almost a pastel look:
