Transfer decals

Not really sure where this subject should go, so move it if you can think of a better place.

I recently purchased some inkjet/clear waterslide decal paper and tried it out today. You print out your image onto the special 8 1/2" x 11" paper in your inkjet printer and let it dry. Then, you spray Krylon clear gloss spray in 3 layers to protect the ink. Once that dries (about 3 hours), then cut out your images. Soak the images in water for 45-60 seconds and slide the image off of the backing paper and onto your object. Smooth out the bubbles with a damp cloth. I put it mine on white tiles. Let that dry, about another 3 hours, and spray again with the gloss spray for better durability. Since it's a clear decal, the color of the object will show through and you can't see the edges of the paper, but they also make the decals in white. Total cost of the tile to make: about 90 cents. Total price I intend to sell them for: $5. Grin Here's the image I used:

Very cool, and something I'm going to need to try.  One question though.  Are you making several at a time?  Otherwise it seems like a lot of time for $4.10.

Ok, two questions.  Where did you get the transfers sheets?

WOW, $5 ain't nearly enough sweetheart.  You can get your child's image on a tile at Kiddie Kandids, and you can bet they charge more than that.  Granted, they are selling you your child's face... which is priceless.. and all that junk, but you can do better than $5.

I can fit six 3" images on one sheet. Smiley
4" Tiles = 0.14 each (from Lowes)
0.96/sheet divided by 6 = 0.15 per image
The rest of the .90 is a guess, based on what I think I'll get from one $4 can of spray. Once I do more of these, I'll know how many tiles one can can do.

It's not really a lot of time. Print, go off and do something, spray, go off and do something, cut and apply, go watch some TV, spray again.

$5 is the "magic" price at Farmer's Markets in this area. Wink

Well you know your market Smiley  And yeah, I go to lots of farmer's markets in the summer, usually to buy fruits, veggies and herbs, I usually skip the crafty stuff (I bet you hate people like me), but yeah, I would spend five bucks if I liked something.
