Tutorials

Question to throw out there.  Why shouldn't a thread on whether you need insurance be in the business section?  Why shouldn't a tutorial on how to remove red eye be in the digital tools?  It seems that if all the article ideas that Maven threw out (great list, BTW) then we'd wind up with a odd mashup of different topics.

Maybe what we need is a way to tag threads as good, popular, worth reading, or something like that.  That way they could still be in the board where they make the most sense but still be fairly easy to find.

The point is if the tutorial is on lighting and posing in a cramped space, it could be portrait, wedding, or lighting.

What about taking my other suggestion and going the other way, Create a thread NOBODY can post in that just contains links to the tutorials in whatever section the writer felt it should be in. So if you were interested in browsing the tutorials there would be a place, if you were just interested in anything portrait that would work too.

As far as re-inventing wheels, how many tutorials on dragon eyes are there?? [grin]

You need to learn to type faster.  Cheesy I think I can find you a tutorial on that...

This is going a little off the original topic, but what about allowing members to vote on threads and then having a way to view the highest rated threads?

Because they will get their friends to vote for their threads no matter how good/poor it is. Tongue

Next thought...

WebMasterWorld has a series of Library threads in each of the boards.  These are topics that are flagged by moderators (I assume) and are generally the best discussions.  What about something like that?  It would keep the discussion in the board where it fits but would also allow new visitors, and members that have been around for a while for that matter, to easily find the better stuff.

That sounds good. Smiley

Maybe it's because I'm high on pain meds, but I'm having difficulty following exactly what you all are talking about...

Are you thinking about having a forum that is just like a "Recommended Reading" type forum where all the threads are actually links to the 'best' posts and/or 'tutorial' type posts?

Sorry, I'm loopy right now Smiley

Let's see if I can summarize the discussion so far.  Somebody correct me if I'm missing something.

The suggestion was made that we need a separate board for tutorials.  I'm apprehensive because it seems to me that the tutorials would be better placed within the main board.  For example, a tutorial on softening skin with Photoshop fits in better with the digital tools board than it would with a bunch of tutorials on depth of field and picking the right lens.  My latest suggestion is similar to what Web Master World does.  They have a library link at the top of each forum that lists what the mods or admin consider the best threads out of that particular board.  I like that idea because it would allow the good stuff to be more readily accessible and not get lost in the hundreds of other posts.

Makes sense, I like that idea.
