Um, What's a Widget?

So, I was reading the latest Rangefinder and they had a little article about blogs for your business website and they mentioned using apps and widgets.  What's a widget?  Do I need one?  Do I want one?  What do they do?  Smiley

Thanks for the link, kinda looks like a lot of junk though.  I guess I just like things streamlined and professional.  If there is too much stuff on a website I get overwhelmed.

It's usually just a little bit of JavaScript that does something flashy on your site.

It's a Mac thing, I have a number of them, especially "Yoda" that one is fun. Type in a sentence and yoda speaks, too funny. Yoda has quiet the cussing mouth.  LOL

I had no idea what they were.

To me a wigit is an imaginary device/item/thing used in describing a manufacturing process.

"If your machine makes 45 wigits an hour and you have to service it after 2000 wigits...."

Sarcasm, frustrating the clueless since 3000 b.c.

Bob, that's funny, because prior to being in the wedding/event industry I audited freight invoices for big companies and we would say "if you ship x amount of widgets it costs y dollars".
it's quite a common term and probably how they got their name anyway.
