Viking and Scotsman??

My 19-year old stepson, Billy, will be coming to visit on Friday. He is very fond of his Scottish and Viking heritage and I want to do a shoot with him. He is 6'2" tall, and about 240lbs, long (LONG!) Celtic-orange hair, freckles. We have a Scottish Claymore sword, kilt, tunic, etc., but I'm wondering if any of you have any posing/makeup/scene type ideas. He fancies himself a kind of "dark lord", so I'm going to do many intense "driving forward" type of poses with the sword, facial expressions, etc.

Ever seen Braveheart, hint

Actually, no. I don't watch movies with rape scenes.   Sad

Very non-classic, but also movie-like idea:

Straight on to camera, slightly wide stance, sword point down and dead center with both arms holding the hilt and flexed, harsh side lighting from both sides and let the face fall into deep shadow (with detail), head tilted down slightly, low camera angle, and a shop light (or very mild flash) from behind camera just enough to give catchlights in the eyes.

How's that?

with the mountains in the background, right, Travis?

Marian, that's not the point, geez, it's the best example for poses you'll ever find.

That or, just go to the library and research.

Hope you can achieve Travis' great idea.

Oooo...the mountains would be perfect!!

Marian, that's not the point, geez, it's the best example for poses you'll ever find.

Well, Jim has it on DVD, so maybe I'll have him warn me when that part happens and I can close my eyes as he fast forwards through that part. Smiley I would like to see Mel in a kilt... wait...what were we talking about now? Grin

Travis, thanks for the idea! I'm definitely going to try that. Smiley

There are a couple of artists that I get inspiration from.

Boris Valejo

Frank Frazetta

another site I just found that lists a lot of fantasy artists
Barbarian Art

does he have muscles? if so show them off with really angular lights, if not show off what you can and put armor or cloak or something over it.

as far as expressions, you need to capture Rage, Honor, Pride, Worry, Love, and sadness. (He's sad he had to burn your city, right??)

Marian, just find some pictures from the movie online, you don't have to watchthe movie.  Use the Google images search and put in Braveheart.
Heck, put in Viking, see what you find.

OFF TOPIC

Susie, since the secret is out, have a look at Boris, linked in Bob's.
You want poses, study them, you'll be glad you did. Will work great for your Boudoir.

What secret?

I will have a look.  The problems I am encountering is that I don't have a problem posing girls that resemble the models depicted in all the posing resources out there.  It's the girls that don't.  My corrective posing is what needs help.  I am working on it Smiley  Thanks for the resources though, they are helpful.
