I've been seeing a bunch of new members signing up, and thought we could have a nice Welcome thread here.

Welcome! What kind of photography do you do? What kind of equipment do you use? Where are you from? What brought you to this wonderful forum?

I'm Marian. I live in Washington state and currently do Child Photography and Wildlife/Nature Photography. I use a Minolta DSLR 7D camera. Bob told me about this forum and I gleefully jumped ship from somewhere else to join you amazing people. Smiley

I guess everyone should say something, just so there is some place to find out a little about the people that might be "commenting" on one of your photos.

Hello, My name is Bob

and I'm a photographer....

(if you don't get that little joke, its probably a good thing)

I have been a landscape/nature photographer in Chattanooga, Tennessee since the early 90s, loved photography all my life. Photography is my passion, hobby, and takes up most of the time I'm not earning a living or sleeping. By day I manage IT and develop software for a technical manufacturing company.

I just, in the last couple of years am trying to grow from landscape to studio photography and try to specialize in adult portraits (the "not children" type of adult, not the "other" kind) I shoot with Nikon cameras and Sigma glass.

Am I a professional photographer? my answer is "Most of the time, no". [grin]

Hi, My name is Mike and I'm addicted to pornography, oops, photography.   Big Grin

I am 44 and married 18 years to my wife Robin and have two children, ages 13 and 12.
I moved my family from Manitoulin Island to London Ontario, to attend Fanshawe College 2 year Photography Program which began in the fall of 2006. I have over 25 years experience in photography. A reinjury to my back has caused me to pursue a career in photography.

I have done numerous work in photography and had my own business on Manitoulin Island before moving to London. I also have done workshops for an elementary school and a nature park. My experience in landscape/nature photography has given me other interests, such as fashion photography, a major cross over from what I'm used to.

Hi! I am Anton, and some people might remember me...

I live in Moscow. I have been making digital photos since 2003, and they mostly were industrial landscapes and genre shots of people. I have my own studio which I established with my friend in February 2006. For these two years we have photographed a pretty lot of people.

I am not a professional photographer, I am an engineer. I just like to please people and take no money for this.

For the last years I use Olympus E-500 and a couple of lenses with it plus six light sources for portraits, going to have two ones more. I love my gear!

I jumped into this nice forum after Ed Farmer told me about it and invited me to come.

P.S. If you ever come to Moscow City, just let me know about it!..   )

I am not new, but I will tell a little about myself for anyone that is new.
I'm Susie.  I mainly shoot weddings.  I love weddings, but I also do a lot of other types of photography.  My husband and I have owned a photography business for a few years and we do it all together.  We both grew up in families full of photographers.
And, well, that's about it.

I wanted to welcome anyone that is new and invite them to jump right in and post lots of pictures, this forum has some great people with a lot of experience.  It would be wise to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge there is here.

Hello, I am Travis Minnig.  I started photography as a means to record reference images for paintings.  I then became addicted and have been ever since.  That was about 7 years ago.  I originally photographed only scenics and wildlife, but then started the New York Institute of Photography's Professional Photography course in an attempt to do something besides "point and shoot... and pray the prints would show what I saw in the original scene".  NYIP had a large section that dealt with portraiture, which I never had any previous interest in.  I didn't want to do mediocre projects for my assignments, however, so I began to really study and work to learn how to photograph people.  I never did gain the proficiency I wanted (and I probably never will), but eventually I had to turn in my last assignments before time ran out on my course deadlines.  I completed the course and have been trying to learn all I could about all types of photography ever since.  I am now a specialist in children's portraits, but I am also trying to get into the stock photography world with my wildlife and landscape/fine art photos (I just can't seem to give that up).

My studio is currently being re-located to a small town called Hooper in Utah.  I have some big plans for this year, and even bigger plans for my distant future.  I am currently doing photography as a 'weekend warrior', but hope to be making a living at it full time in the next 4-5 years.

Im Corey.

I shoot when I can. And am always looking for willing subjects. Finding the time to do it is a bit more tricky.
I really want to get some formal education for photography, but I havent yet figured out how to fit it into my life. Im an at home mom of two little boys ages 3 and 4. Perhaps when they start elementery school, I can focus a bit more on my art. As, I am really hoping to make this a supplemental income for myself.
Im here soaking up as much as I can from you all who are out there doing it already, and have learned a ton.
I truly appreciate the members here who are so willing to help with the learning process.

Hey! I'm Lauren, I'm 22 and live in Southern California. I started taking pictures and taking classes when I was 13. I started with landscapes, I wanted to capture and remember all the pretty things I saw in the world, and soon realized that I couldn't paint or draw worth anything, so I started just taking pictures of them, and never stopped. My first attempt at photography (not just snapshots) was at Yellowstone Park the summer before I started high school. I've gotten more into portraits through the years, but I will take pictures of just about anything.

I have a brand new Canon XTi, which I realize isn't the most "profession level" camera, but I love it, and it is all my budget will allow.

I know the basics of F-stops and apature (even though I'm not sure I can spell it), I can set up studio lights and use a light meter, and know how to do quite a few things on Photoshop, but I'm not an expert by far and will probably ask lots of questions, so I apoligize ahead of time if I try anyone's patience, but in return will answer any questions that I can. I tend to get excited when I learn how to do new things.  Cheesy

Hi everyone.

I'm new to all of this.  My wife wanted a good camera for taking family pics with and I was against it but since I had no choice in the matter (long story) I got her a Nikon D80 with the 18mm - 135mm AF lens for her B-day that was about 4 months or so ago.  Once we got it she said "here, you learn it and then teach me."  So I have been playing with it here and there mainly getting shots of the kids but lately I have been out taking shots of nature shots.

I have been dabbling in Photoshop for about a year but it was more so chop work than it was anything.  I'm a little above beginner but have been playing more and more with it to improve my skills.

With young kids and being a working professional it is hard to get out and pursue this to it's fullest but I am trying to use it as a stress reliever.  So far I have a couple of shots that have helped with that.

Hi - my name is Melanie, I work in and around the Toronto, Canada area.
I have been taking photo's for years for friends and family but decided to head to school for it in 2005 @ Fanshawe College. I was sick and tired of going no where fast in an office job.

I mainly shoot portraits/weddings but i delve into some commercial shoots (floors/kitchens/wood) I don't have enough time to focus on nature shots, but i wish i did.

I have a couple Nikon D70s and some sigma f2.8 lens.
i have been signed up for this forum for quite some time - but didn't have enough time to even browse and comment.

*working on my time management issues ... cough cough...
