Yesterday's Senior Girl

After several shots she warmed up to the camera and I think we really got some great stuff.

The first shot was with my ring light but since virtually everyone hates the round catchlights, I cloned them out and Photoshopped in some new ones.

The second shot shows one of my "hated" backgrounds (hated by my fellow photographers, but my clients love it!)  I turned it 180 degrees from how I usually use it and had her sit on what was always in the background before.  Then I got up on a 10 foot stepladder.

The third shot was done at the courthouse with all natural lighting.

Benji, almost all your posts consist of pointing out that other photographers hate your methods, posing, lighting, backdrops... something, but that your clients love it.  I think you need to stop caring so much about what other photographers think, or you need to realize they may know something that will improve your photography, something that the random lay-client may not know.

Having said that, I love the second one, it's very trendy.  The only thing I would watch is her posture.  Of course it is a casual pose and you don't want her to look stiff, but it appears like she is a little hunchbacked because of the angle.

I think the first photo is great. I've said before the only thing I don't like about the ring is the catch lights. She is far enough away it might not have mattered so much.

the second one I like the "magic cloud" feel.

As far as the third shot, you've already pointed out what you think of anything negative I might have to say.

Gin,

I guess the reason I say something about my backdrops is so perhaps my fellow photographers will begin to see that in senior imaging it is all about what THE SENIORS think, not what we think.  If they say the background is wonderful then use it. If they shy away from it (even though it may be our favorite) don't use it.

I seldom get comments on my methods. I get some on my posing (mostly good although some people don't care for the 1-3-2 posing technique) and in my lighting I usually get positive comments.  Thanks for yours!

#3 the smile looks fake. A head tilt would be an improvement overall. Body pose looks great.
These are opinions on the practical.

No one is "Cutting" your work, as Gin mentioned, just giving some sound advise.
I know other photogs who don't like info/advise/critique/opinions, they just like to see, pretty words. An attitude I feel they think "I'm it" "I'm there" "Who are you to say such things"
Too bad they think that way.
